Dr.
Varghese John is the new principal of Union Christian College, Aluva. He
began his five-year tenure as the principal on the 01st of April 2005.
Dr. John is also a senior faculty in the Department of English. Dr.
John's teaching career started in UCC in 1979, and he has held many
important positions in the college. The installation
ceremony took place in the College Chapel on the 19th of March,
witnessed by a large gathering of former and current faculty and
students. Rt. Rev. Dr. George Isaac, Bishop, North Kerala Diocese of the
CSI Church, and a member of the College Standing Council, gave a message
on the occasion. Dr. Varghese John was awarded Ph D in
English by Calicut University in 1994. His specialization was in
American Literature, and his dissertation was on “Gertrude Stein’s
Fiction: Painting as Design and Process.” He is a
prolific researcher, and has produced 4 Ph D's. He is currently guiding
6 Ph D candidates. He is also a co-investigator on a major UGC Research
Project with Prof. VM Johnappa and Dr. Thomas Mathew. He has published
one book "American Literature and Indian English Literature: Studies in
Cultural Contiguity," edited jointly with Prof. AM Geevarghese. Another
book, "Gertrude Stein: Beyond Modernist Issues" is nearing completion.
