Dr. Simon will be responsible for updating the U. C. College website and the establishment of Alumni Chapter in North America. Thara has served as a fellow of the United Board for Christian Higher Education. The 2-year stint enabled Thara to spend time in McQuarie University, Sydney, Australia, in Korea, and in Hope College, Michigan, USA under the faculty leadership training program. 

Thara is wife of Saji (Jacob Elias), Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering, at Cochin University of Science and Technology. They have two children, Meera (8) and Manu (4). They live in the West Hostel Quarters.

Thara has studied in St. Theresa's College in Ernakulam for 11 years completing her Ph D.

While doing M Sc Botany, Thara was very much interested in Journalism. She completed a PG diploma from Pubic Relations Society of India in 1989. She graduated with first Rank honors. She hopes to utilize all that aptitude and knowledge to UC College service.

Thara says that her only ambition in life was to become a teacher at UC College with its rich traditions. Her grandfather was an alumnus of the college (2nd batch). As a child she heard exotic stories of UC College life and tradition, culture, diversity, old buildings, etc. from her grandfather that kindled her interest in the college. He took her for frequent tours of the campus, hostels, etc. She fell in love with the college. She knew at that time that she belonged to the college!

Apart from her interest in Botany, and Journalism, Thara is also interested in Environmental Science, Malayalam literature, poetry, recital, cooking, and more.
