Mission Accomplished. Prof. Leelamma returns to India
after a successful US Trip.
By Dr. Thara Simon
Teacher, we are proud of you !
Friends,
Dr. K. E. Leelamma is back after her successful US trip.
In one of the
faculty meetings she expressed her deep sense of gratitude to all the
alumni and friends of UCC, for being kind and helpful in receiving her
and helping in networking old students. She was also able to visit
many of the important US universities and colleges with the help of
the old students.
The trip of Dr. Leelamma provided us a chance to
understand the
efforts of Dr. A. M. Chacko, our former principal who devoted
considerable time for alumni development in the past. KEL shared the
fond memories of the older generation of the US alumni, the warmth and
respect with which they remember Chacko sir.
Hope College campus received Dr. Leelamma with `Tulip
hearts'. Apart
from the discussions regarding MOU, she visited the divisions such as
Psychology, Biology, Women Studies and International Relations; for
further planning of Hope-UCC linkage. UCC is expecting a team of
faculty from Hope in August 2007.
As the UB coordinator of UCC, Dr. Jyothi Mariyam John
took special
interest in arranging the visit of Dr. Leelamma to the office of the
United Board NY. KEL had fruitful conversations with the president Dr.
Petritia Stranahan and v. President Dr. Rita Pullium. UB appreciated
the active participation of the United Board Fellows of UCC in the
FLDS programme and for their efforts in strengthening the
International linkages. They recalled the recent efforts of Dr. P.
Thomas Mathew, Department of Botany, towards developing a possible
linkage with Ateneo University, Manila, his former host institution.
In connection with a Faculty Fellowship Conference, the senior
officials of UB will be visiting UCC in the first week of August 2007.
On 12th June, KEL visited Institute of International
Education (IIE)
NY. Being the committee member of UCC faculty exchange programme she
met the Director Dr. Daniel Obst, and the Senior Manager Dr. Daniel
Fraley. They were very happy with our initiative of collaborating
with US institutions and they explained the mode of membership in IIE
and ways to connect institutions in IIE.
The recent policies of the UCC management towards
promoting
international exposure to the faculty are worth mentioning. Our
principal Dr. Varghese John and Manager Prof. Mathew Koshy have
offered all support for further follow up of the present programmes
and alumni networking.
Once again thank you Dr. Jacob Mathew for your
initiatives, especially
your thoughtfulness in taking KEL to the alumni offices of the near by
colleges and visit to the Universities. We acknowledge the inspiration
and guidance from Dr. KC. Chacko, the senior member of yahoo forum for
sponsoring the visit.
In June 2007, Dr. Leelamma completed 30 years of service
as a UCC
faculty. On behalf of yahoo forum, let me thank Dr, Leelamma for her
heard work, dedication and commitment to the UCC community.
Teacher, we are indeed proud of you!
Best wishes
Thara
