by Thara Simon |
Great to inform you all that Dr. A. M. Chacko will be our new manager.
For the information of the young generation of alumni, may I take the
liberty to introduce Dr. AMC, our former Principal and Head of the
Department of Chemistry?
Dr. A.M. Chacko studied at UCC during 1951 to 1955. He joined as
Demonstrator in Chemistry in 1955 immediately after completing his
studies at UCC. After post graduation at St. John's College, Agra, Dr.
AMC joined the college as lecturer in Chemistry in 1961 and became a
permanent faculty. He succeeded Prof. Anantharaman as Professor and Head
of the Dept. of Chemistry and retired in 1994. Dr. AMC served as the
Principal of the College during 1981 to 1986. It is noteworthy that
after completing his tenure as principal, he continued to serve the
college as a faculty in the Chemistry Department.
During 1961 to 1965, Prof. AMC did his Ph. D. in Chemistry at the
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (USA). Immediately after his
studies. he returned back to India and took charge of the Chemistry
Department at UCC. The new set of Chemistry laboratories were
established during this time. The Dept. was upgraded as a Post-graduate
Dept. and Research Centre during his tenure.
In 1986 as per request from the College, Prof. AMC visited Gulf
countries and established networking of Old Student Association in
Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah.
In 1996, the Presbyterian Church, USA invited him to visit their
parishes in Ohio as an Ecumenical Associate for three months. During
this visit, Dr. AMA could establish various chapters of the Old Students
Association in New York-New Jersey area, Washington, North Carolina,
Chicago and Atlanta.
After retirement, AMC served on the UCC Standing Council and the
Governing Body of the College for several years. He has also been
serving as the Chairman of the Governing Boards of the two Schools in
Christava Mahilalayam, Alwaye. Dr. A. M. Chacko was fortunate to meet
generations of Old Students during his US visit last year, as an invitee
of UCCAANA.
Alumni all over the world will be passionately looking forward to
meeting their dear teacher, principal and main warden in the chair of
UCC manager. May God Almighty bless him with more health, and strength
to lead the college to greater heights.
At this moment, let us remember with gratitude, our manager Prof. Mathew
Koshy for all his dedicated services in various capacities. Thank you
very much.
